UK Govt Anti-Green Theme
You may have missed this one, as it was introduced so quietly that it almost slipped under the radar… The UK government have ‘watered down’ reforms to the carbon market. Why do these reforms matter? The government has discounted the price businesses pay based on the carbon they emit. Effectively making it easier and cheaper for ‘big industry’ to pollute. James Huckstepp, analyst at BNP Paribas, said it could have the “biggest impact of any policy on the UK’s emissions path.” In the long term, this is a damaging move for the environment and looks like a short-term play to prioritise the economy over the environment ahead of elections… Full story here.
