New York-based water technology innovator Xylem is tackling this issue head-on. With the support of the 2016 Water Supply Costs Savings Act, the company is leading the way when it comes to tackling water inaccessibility.
Xylem is making real-life differences on the ground. In February 2020, the company stepped in to help the Crawford family in Virginia, who were forced out of their home when their water well failed.
Moving into their home in Suffolk marked a new beginning for Wayne and Belinda Crawford and their four children. It was something they had always dreamed of.
But less than a year into their new family life, the shallow well pump that serviced the home malfunctioned. It didn’t take long for the Crawfords to be left without running water altogether. Things quickly began to spiral.
Without running water, Social Services wouldn’t allow the family to continue to live in their home. And within weeks, they were forced to move into a hotel. The Crawfords were in desperate need of help.
That’s when Belinda contacted the Water Well Trust, a non profit that helps supply clean water to families, and much to her relief, the Crawfords were quickly identified as a family in need.
With the family on the in-need list, the trust reached out to its networks. Xylem quickly stepped in when they got the call. Partnering with Hometown H2O, the company coordinated to donate water well equipment from among its nationwide network of distributors and installers.
Along with 17 volunteers who helped kit-out the Crawford home, Xylem delivered a totally new water well for the family in just weeks.
The move not only provided the Crawfords with basic water services most people take for granted, but meant they could move back into the home they had always felt was truly their own.
Founded in 2011, Xylem is one of the world’s leading water technology companies. The company is fully committed to solving water problems by creating innovative, smart technology solutions to meet the world's water, wastewater, and energy needs.
